Wet Naturals

Wet has been around for a long time as a leading brand of personal sexual lubricants with a lube for every type of sexual activity you can imagine.  Recently, they came out with an all “natural” line of personals lubricants that I was very interested in trying called Wet Naturals.  Seriously, I have so many lubes it is truly hard to get excited about a lubricant product for a review, but the Wet Naturals line actually intrigued me.

Trigg Laboratories promotes Wet Naturals as “formulated especially for women by women… designed to enhance a woman’s natural moisture… [and] work[s] well for those with sensitive skin.”

All the Wet Naturals are paraben, glycerin and sugar free which is important as many women have allergies or find parabens irritating and glycerin (like sugar) is a common cause for yeast infections for women who are prone to them.  I am all for using products with less chemical (body burden) ingredients and more natural ingredients as well, and Wet Naturals are enriched with botanical ingredients, antioxidants, vitamins and Aloe Vera.

Wet Naturals come in three formulations.  Wet Naturals Silky Supreme (silicone based), Wet Naturals Beautifully Bare (water based), and Wet Naturals Sensual Strawberry (water based).  Since I am not a fan of flavored products I am only reviewing the first two, but Sensual Strawberry is basically the same as Beautifully Bare with added flavors and sweeteners (Aspartame).

Most people, depending on who you ask, like either water-based lubricants over silicone or visa-versa.  I actually like both types of lubricants equally, depending on what I am using them for.  I do however “prefer” using water-based lubricants as they are more “natural” than silicone-based lubes, and I have that whole “body burden” issue thing.

Wet Naturals Silky Supreme (silicone based)

wet silky supreme

Wet Naturals Silky Supreme is silicone based which means it is much longer lasting than a water-based lube.  If you were testing this against Beautifully Bare (which I did) then Silky Supreme will win the longevity race every time.  It is actually very cool to compare lubes, one on each hand as your rub a small amount of the lubricant between your fingers.  This is how I was taught to show customers the different qualities in lubricants which is usually physically apparent right away when you are comparing a silicone lube with a water-based one.  Even after wiping the silicone lube away you can feel that the slippery texture is still coating your fingertips.  This is how the lube acts on the genitals as well.  It coats the surface leaving it slick and ready for action, and lasts a long time even after it has rubbed away.

Silky Supreme is a fairly good quality silicone-based lubricant.  It is tasteless (but I don’t recommend eating it), odorless, long-lasting and enriched with Vitamin E.  It actually does absorb into the skin after use leaving it moisturized.  It may not be the slickest or thickest silicone lube I have used, but as far as performance is concerned, it could give more expensive silicone lubes a run for their money.  Other than the fact that there is really nothing “natural” about silicone (rather misleading), I have no beefs with this lube and it works great.

Qualities of Silicone Lubes

  • Water resistant (so good for water sports)
  • Longer lasting than water-based lubes
  • Coats skin and doesn’t absorb in well
  • Condom compatible
  • Good for body massages
  • Best for partner sex, vaginal and anal sex
  • Washes away with soap and water
  • Not compatible with Silicone sex toys
  • Can stain sheets
  • Not recommended for oral sex
  • Is a man-made polymer aka “not Natural”

Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Cyclomethicone, Phenyl Trimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate).

Wet Naturals Beautifully Bare (water based)

wet beautifully bareWet Naturals Beautifully Bare is water based, which means it is a more “natural” type of lubricant and will absorb into the skin.  One of the things you will notice when doing the finger lube test, is that with water-based lubes they will normally become sticky or gummy after a few moments.  Water-based lubes are more like the body’s own natural lubricants (saliva or vaginal wetness) which, if left to dry on the skin can go through a sticky stage.  I found Beautifully Bare absorbed into my skin, leaving no stickiness or residue.  Although you may have to reapply or reactivate water-based lubricants (with saliva or your own natural juices) for marathon performance sexual escapades I find one application lasts anywhere between 10-20 minutes given the type of activity and the natural wetness of your own genitals.

I really liked Beautifully Bare quite a bit, as much as some of my favorite water-based lubricants and much more than other ones that I have tried.  It is not top of the line, nor is it all-natural or organic, but it is in the high-mid-range of lubricants that are good quality and reasonably priced.

Qualities of Water-Based Lubes

  • Not water resistant so will wash away in water
  • Not as long-lasting as silicone lubes
  • Absorbs well into skin, can leave a sticky residue
  • Condom compatible
  • Moisturizes and leaves skin soft
  • Doesn’t work well as a massage lotion
  • Best for oral sex, toy sex, masturbation and short sexual romps
  • Is compatible with any type of toy material
  • Will not stain sheets
  • Not good for anal sex
  • Is a mainly a natural product

Ingredients: Water, PEG, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Polysorbate-20, Sodium Benzoate, Diazolidinyl Urea, Triethanolamine, Citric Acid, Carbomer, Tetrasodium EDTA, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cran-berry) Fruit Extract, Trifolium Pratense (Clover) Flower Extract, Ascorbic Acid.

So, I can’t honestly say that one lubricant (water-based versus silicone) is actually better than the other.  Both products have their strengths and weaknesses as well as preferred uses.  I use and recommend both; depending on the sexual activity you are partaking of.

One thing is certain though, as much as lubricants are not terribly exciting to review, they are the most essential sexual aid there is when it comes to sex or masturbation and with sex toys they are a must.  Personal lubricants reduce friction and dryness, enhance pleasure and sensation, and allow all of your sexual parts to slide and groove together.  Lubes are especially important for women who suffer from vaginal dryness.  It is important to find the right ones though, ones that are made for women.

You can get both Wet Natural products Beautifully Bare and Silky Supreme at Sextoy.com who also have a great selection of sex toys and vibrators.
