“The Ultimate Guide to Cunnilingus” Book Review

The Ultimate Guide to Cunnilingus

“The Ultimate Guide to Cunnilingus” is a book written by Violet Blue and published by Cleis Press. The book also includes a forward by Margaret Cho. The book has the same formatting as all of the Cleis Press “how-to” guides, and this is the 2nd edition that was recently released with updated information. The book doesn’t state what the second edition has changed, but if I had to guess, it probably just changed a lot of the STD information and resource information that can be found in the book. The book has 178 pages along with 12 different chapters.

The tagline for this book is “How to Go Down on a Woman and Give Her Exquisite Pleasure”, and this book does just that. The book covers all of the information that you need to know to be the giver of oral sex on a female-bodied person – no matter your sexual preferences. It also gives some information for the person who will be receiving the oral sex as well, so it’s a good book for both sides.

One of the neat additions to this book is that Violet Blue uses quotations throughout this sex book. She made a survey for her web visitors to take, and in that survey, her guests could put down some of their experiences with oral sex. Throughout the book, Violet Blue has sprinkled some of these passages in her sex-help pages. Each one of the passages is very short, but it gives a “real-life” look into the topic at hand and lets you know about how “real” people feel about the topic. It’s really neat to see, and it can really help you feel “normal”.

The other great addition is the addition of erotica. You normally don’t see erotic stories in a book intended for sex education, but why not? After all, sex education should still be sexy! Violet Blue keeps it sexy by bringing in some erotic stories from Alison Tyler. There are 5 different erotic stories, and they only span about 2 pages in length. As you could guess, each one of the stories focuses on the idea of oral sex on a female. The stories are end the end of some of the chapters, and they are another neat way to make the sex education that you’re learning about very sexy and very fun – and make you want to try it even sooner.

Throughout the entire book, Violet Blue is amazingly non-judgemental. She talks freely about lesbian as well as heterosexual relationships, and she talks openly about the “power play” that could exist with cunnilingus and different ways to think about giving and receiving it. This is something that most books do not discuss. Her writing is very non-judgemental while still being really interesting Never once did I feel bored, but at the same time, this could also be because the topics move relatively quickly from one to the next. This is a good thing, though, as Violet Blue manages to get all of the needed information into one section – but does it well and succinctly – before moving onto the next section.

I was really, really surprised and REALLY, really proud of some of the sections in this book. These were sections and suggestions that, in all of my 100+ sex books that I’ve read, I haven’t found in other sex books. For one, Violet Blue is really honest and up-front about the dangers of rimming without some sort of form of protection. For another, Violet Blue also covers how disabilities can impact oral sex and how to get around those for the most pleasure. She also covers how to make a garter belt work with dental dams which, again, is great information to know.

Some of the other topics in the book include discussing why you would want to give and receive oral sex, how to learn how to love receiving and giving oral sex, the female anatomy, health and STD information for oral sex, the different tastes and textures of oral sex and how to improve it, how to get started with oral sex, how to seduce your partner during oral sex, including sex toys and sex positions along with oral sex, advanced tricks and techniques, other books and videos about oral sex, and different resources that you can check into.

Overall, I’m very impressed by Violet Blue’s “The Ultimate Guide to Cunnilingus”. I’m happy that Cleis Press updated it to a second edition as the book certainly deserved it, and Violet Blue does a great job of providing all of the information that you need while still keeping it fun and fresh to read. You don’t get bored while reading this book, and you learn a lot of things that can transfer very easily to the bedroom. Thanks to Cleis Press for sending me “The Ultimate Guide to Cunnilingus“.
