Yes! Water-based Lubricant

*****

Yes! water-based intimate lubricant is a certified organic lube developed by women for women.  It was one of the first “natural” lubricants I ever reviewed and it still remains my absolute favorite personal lubricant today. It contains 96% organically grown plant-based natural ingredients, with no pesticides, chemical fertilizers, hormones, parabens, petrochemicals, silicone, fragrance, sugars or glycerin. All the ingredients it does contain are natural, body-safe and moisturizing. It lasts well and doesn’t get sticky, simply absorbing into the skin like aloe (one of the main ingredients).

The only downside of Yes! products is that they can only be purchased online from the Yesyesyes.org site for North American buyers and they have a shelf-life because they are organic and should be kept in the fridge. PHENOXYETHANOL is classified as a low level irritant.

Good Clean Love

****

Good Clean Love Almost Naked Lubricant is an all natural lubricant that is 95% organic and is 100% green.  This water-based formula is as close as you can get to a woman’s own natural wetness.  Almost Naked also has a touch of vanilla that is slightly sweet and tastes like ambrosia which is delicious and because it is natural, it leaves no aftertaste.  The new improved formula last even longer than it used to and never gets sticky.

Good Clean Love does contain vegetable glycerin, glucose, glucose oxidase, and lactoperioxidase which are “sugars”, but is in a concentration of less than 3-7% so should not be a problem with women who are prone to yeast infections.  GCL products have no reported incidents of yeast infections, even at the pelvic pain clinics where they have been recommended and sold. One ingredient BENZOIC ACID is restricted in some cosmetics, but came up with a low irritability warning.

Intimate Organics

***

Intimate Organics Hydra Lube is a water-based lube made with a blend of organic extracts including aloe, Goji Berry fruit extract, and lemon grass.  IO Hydra is extremely slick and silky for a water-based lubricant, naturally nourishing the skin, and lasts longer than most water-based lubes including those above.  It is the perfect lubricant for using with sex toys, for as we know, sex toys tend to be a bit drying, and it is of course compatible with any toy material.  Hydra also makes a great lube for partner sex and enhances penetration by staying slick until it naturally absorbs into the skin.

Hydra is almost completely odorless but has a slightly tangy, bitter aloe flavor, which reminds me a slight cosmetic taste. Contains PROPYLENE GLYCOL which is an irritant to some people.

Hathor Aphrodisia

****

Hathor Aphrodisia Lubricant Pure is an organic, body-friendly, vegan, water-based, personal lubricant.  It is glycerine and paraben free and contains only seven pure botanical ingredients that “create a healthy environment most like your body’s natural fluids”.  One of the ingredients, Horny Goat Weed, is said to increase energy and to stimulate sexual hormone production when ingested like a natural Viagra, and topically increases blood flow to the genital region.

This lube has no real discernible odor and a slight acidic taste on the tip of the tongue.  The concentration of the product is fairly thick and gel-like which emulsifies quickly when rubbed in to create a smooth, slippery texture.  It absorbs into the skin leaving absolutely no residue or sticky feeling.  Definitely one of the most natural lubes on the market.  Also contains PROPYLENE GLYCOL.

O’My Original Lube

**

About a year ago I tried O’My flavored lubes.  I’m not a big fan of flavored lubes for several reason.  One is that they tend to have sugars (or glycerin) and get very sticky.  I have always heard people praise this lube however, and wanted to give it another chance, so decided to try the original which is not flavored.

O’My Original is an all-natural lubricant and is made of hemp.  It has a slightly sweet flavor because of its organic composition, yet is sugar-free for women prone to yeast infections. Unfortunately, I found that this lube became very sticky with extended use.  I have other water-based lubes that last much longer and just absorb into the skin.  I’ll have to pass on this lube once again.  I am a granola girl and really wanted to like it, because it is all natural and organic which is a major bonus.

What is basically comes down to though is–does it work?  For me it didn’t, but everyone is different and this is most likely a great lubricant for some.  Note, this contains (GRAPEFRUIT) SEED EXTRACT which is a low level irritant and other problem chemicals, but rates low in the Cosmetic Database.  It also seems that O’My has gone out of business although you can still buy a few of their products online.

Babeland Naturals Organic Lube

***

Compared to my favorite organic lubricants Babeland’s Naturals Organic Lube works equally as well as a lubricant for jill’in off or partner sex.  The one I was given to try—Fresh—has a slight mint aroma (due to peppermint leaf) and tastes a bit like mint and citrus.  It comes in a nice blue glass bottle to protect it against sunlight with a quick and easy-to-use pump, so you get just the right amount you want, no spills.

I probably would have preferred the Naked instead of the Fresh, just because I’m not a huge lover of mint or coolness in a lube, but the feeling and taste was not off-putting, desensitizing or irritating, like some products I have tried.

Note: Contains Glycerin and Glucose two sugar-producing substances that can promote yeast infections in women who are prone to them.

Wet Naturals

*

All the Wet Naturals are paraben, glycerin and sugar free which is important as many women have allergies or find parabens irritating and glycerin (like sugar) is a common cause for yeast infections for women who are prone to them.  I am all for using products with less chemical (body burden) ingredients and more natural ingredients as well, and Wet Naturals are enriched with botanical ingredients, antioxidants, vitamins and Aloe Vera.

Wet Naturals Beautifully Bare is their water-based formulation which means it is a more “natural” type of lubricant and will absorb into the skin.  Water-based lubes are more like the body’s own natural lubricants (saliva or vaginal wetness) which, if left to dry on the skin can go through a sticky stage.  I found Beautifully Bare absorbed into my skin, leaving no stickiness or residue.  I really liked Beautifully Bare quite a bit, as much as some of my favorite water-based lubricants and much more than other ones that I have tried.  It is not top of the line, nor is it all-natural or organic, but it is in the high-mid-range of lubricants that are good quality and reasonably priced.

However, it’s toxicity level rated higher than any of those above on the 6 scale (1-10) and contains POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL, DIAZOLIDINYL UREA, and TRIETHANOLAMINE all irritants.  Note: Urea is a compound found in urine.

Astroglide Natural

*

I gave Astroglide Natural a really tough review.  Basically, many lube companies are jumping on the bandwagon and trying to make “natural” lubes for the market, because it is now trendy.  As one of the originators of personal lubes, you would think that Astroglide would have be innovating body-safe lubes way before everyone else.  Not so.  It took companies like Good Clean Love to start looking into what companies like Atroglide and KY were putting into their lubes to make a difference.  So, I don’t give Astroglide any points for innovation.

Although Astroglide is “natural” it still contains parabens which are irritants and is not what I would consider body-safe.  The paraben issue not-withstanding, I had other issues with Astroglide Natural as a how well it works (or in this case doesn’t).  The consistency of this lube is more thick than thin.  It has a mild “hand-cream” smell and a slight tang to the taste, but is mainly odorless and tasteless.  I found this lube dried up fairly quickly (I applied it twice while masturbating) and gets pretty sticky once dry.  I actually had to wash right away as I felt so sticky and well… gross. It is one of the stickiest lubes I have tried, and for me just didn’t work effectively. So, I wouldn’t use this lube again just for that fact alone. METHYLPARABEN is a huge irritant and rates 10 on the toxicity scale from 1-10.  All other ingredients rated very low.

*However, they now make a glycerin and paraben-free formula that rated fairly low (1) in toxicity levels.

I love this. I still need to try Yes. I didn’t know it needed to be refrigerated, though – that’s kinda awkward.
