Last year I reviewed Nina Hartley’s Guide to Erotic Bondage [my review], and while I enjoyed the DVD, I criticized it for not showing any rope play.  So, I have been waiting to review Nina Hartley’s Guide to Bondage Sex as it stars Claire Adams, and I knew it would be great because Claire is an expert rigger and bondage model.  Well, I have to say that I was not disappointed in this film.  It is everything and more I expected it to be.  This is the best Nina Hartley “how-to” DVD to date.

Like all of Nina’s guides, this one starts off with an instructional intro chat with Nina and her sexy co-host, this time the lovely Clair Adams.  Clair is like WoW!  She is so sweet and soft spoken, so professional and intelligent.  Her personality really comes across on screen.  At first she seems a bit nervous with her lines, but soon she gets into it and it very articulate and wonderful.  Her knowledge is awesome, and as Ernest Greene notes in the behind-the-scenes, it would take two full length DVDs to share just some of what Claire show and tells for the DVD.  She is very thorough and obviously passionate about her topic.

During the Intro, Claire and Nina talk about safety issues a lot which is very important.  They also talk about why someone would want to get into bondage, which are various reasons, some of which I hadn’t considered myself, such as it can be very relaxing and a stress reducer to be bound and have control taken away from you.  It obviously works that way for Claire as she seems very calm and zen during her talk.  The contrast between her quiet demeanor and Nina’s bubbly enthusiasm is quite interesting to watch.  Nina makes Claire laugh a lot.  Although I didn’t time it, the intro seems quite a bit longer than most of Nina’s guides.  But, then, there is a lot of ground to cover to introduce novices to safe bondage for play.  The most important thing anyone should take away from this, as that bondage for sex should not be about punishment or discomfort, but should always be for mutual pleasure.

Bondage Scene 1- Claire Adams tops Nina Hartley

Nina is usually always the top in her DVDs.  This is the first time in over 20 years that she has allowed someone else to tie her up on camera, although she admits to enjoying it occasionally in her private life.  So lucky Claire!  Both women have an obvious fondness, respect, and sexual attraction for each other, so the chemistry between them is great.  Claire demos various bondage positions on Nina that facilitate sex.  Obviously, there are a lot of bondage positions that don’t work well for sexual situations as well, but Claire is a pro at tying Nina to her sexual advantage.  Claire mostly uses the Eastern method of tying with a double (folded) rope and only ever uses a square knot for ties.  I have been to a few Midori classes and she does the same thing.  So you don’t have to know a whole bunch of knots to learn bondage.  I have to laugh when I see so-called pros using all kinds of crazy knots, when the real pros use only one.

There are too many positions that Claire puts Nina in to describe here fully.  I really suggest you get the DVD to learn them and practice them yourself.  Seeing Claire do it is amazing, and I would not attempt to explain them any better.  One position I want to note though, because it is funny.  Claire ties Nina to a chair with a strap-on thigh harness.  Next, she ties a Magic Wand to her other thigh positioned perfectly to drive Nina crazy as she finishes tying her and leaves the vibe on after testing the position.  Nina can’t get out and finds the vibe’s power almost overwhelming, pretty well begging Claire to turn it off, but doesn’t use her safe word, so the vibe stays on.  It is so funny to see Nina not in control (poor Nina!) and Claire being able to tease her.  Although, she does get back at Claire when she is eats Claire’s pussy, gets her worked up and then holds Claire’s clit in her mouth and stops, driving Claire insane.  This scene is so fun and I love the way the women tease each other.  The bondage ties are also awesome, yet easy to implement yourself as they are fairly simple.

Bondage Scene 2 – Trinity Post and Van Damage with Claire Adams

Next, Claire’s talents are used to tie up Trinity for Van Damage to fuck, something that is a big turn-on for him.  Trinity is also an experienced bondage model and has worked with Claire quite a bit.  At first I thought Trinity and Van are partners as they are very comfortable with each other, but turns out they are not.  Claire ties Trinity in various positions which are facilitated by Trinity’s flexibility.  At one point, Claire has tied Trinity suspended from this awesome metal bed with an overhead cross-bar structure so she hovers reverse doggie over Van’s cock.  This is an amazing position as she effortlessly bounces up and down fucking herself.  Lots of other cool ties so go check out the DVD, you won’t be disappointed.  Clair helps play with Trinity as well while Van fucks her (Trinity), but never interrupts the play between them.

Nina’s Guides always have some great extras like an interview with Nina and Behind-the-Scenes which I always find fascinating to watch.  This DVD also features a in-depth interview with Claire which is great.  Claire goes more into what she loves about bondage, some of her most challenging bondage situations, and her personal history with kink and bondage.  I really think Ernest should have gone for the two DVDs, cause I can’t get enough of watching Claire.  She is just an amazing person.  Hopefully Nina will invite her back again soon for another DVD.  The Behind-the-Scenes are fun to watch too, as you get a feel for the real life personas.

This film is written and directed by Ernest, but filmed and edited by other professionals.  I’m glad they made that decision here, as that was always one thing that was lacking in Nina’s Guides: the amateurish quality of the cinematography and editing.  So the quality of the film itself is 100% better than some of their older guides because of this.

Bonus Scene – Normally Adam & Eve adds a bonus scene which usually has nothing to do with the main DVD.  In this one however, you get a peek at O: The Power of Submission with Carmen Luvana which is directed by Ernest Greene and in which Nina plays a cameo.  The scene itself is not bad, although I’m not a huge Carmen fan, but I’m glad they included similar material to preview, because I’m actually interested in reviewing it now.

Finally… I cannot recommend this film enough.  For beginners or those curious about exploring bondage for sex, this is an excellent primer.  You could not learn about this topic from a better instructor: the fabulous Claire Adams.  Even for people like me who have done a fair amount of bondage, Claire is sure to teach you something new.  I would actually buy this DVD just for the entertainment value alone!  The scenes are great, and sex amazing, the chemistry hot and playful.
