Universal Lube-Review
Universal Lube is a new and unique silicone-based lubricant that is safe to use on silicone sex toys. What’s that you say? Impossible! Well, I was skeptical myself. Most people wouldn’t put silicone lube near their silicone sex toy. In fact, it is not even recommended to store your silicone sex toys together (at least so they are not touching). This is because silicone on silicone creates a chemical reaction that breaks down the toy and leaves it sticky. I found this out the hard way once when I thought I was using a water-based lube on my silicone dildo and the surface of the toy melted and peeled away. Even after I washed it was still flaking off and lost its lovely shine.
I was a bit wary of using it on the G Twist, because as my new favorite sex toy I didn’t want to turn it into a puddle of goo. But, I trusted my friends at Vibe Review (The Sex Shop I Trust) that it wouldn’t hurt my silicone toys. Their advice has always been right in the past, so I had no reason to doubt their recommendation of this product.
So far I have used Universal Lube on two of my silicone vibrators: the Little Paul and the G-Twist. Neither toy was adversely affected by the Universal Lube.
Since I broke my Little Paul, I decided to do the ultimate test with this new lube. I put Little Paul in a saucer and drenched it in Universal Lube then left it over night for 24 hours. It didn’t melt, or get sticky, or ruin the texture of the silicone on the toy. It washed away easily with soap and water. I am convinced that this lube will not harm silicone sex toys.
Universal Lube is much thicker than other silicone-based lubricants I have used such as Eros Bodyglide, ID Millennium and Swiss Navy. Most silicone lubes I have tried are fairly runny. This lube sticks to the toy with a thin layer of coating and has a glutinous quality. It is therefore less messy that most silicone lubes.
It is odorless and tasteless, but I wouldn’t recommend eating it. If doing oral I would use a water-based lubricant and one that was all natural. I’m just not comfortable with adding to my body burden. And, although the verdict is still out on silicone and the possible side effects it has on the body, I wouldn’t want to take any chances.
My S/O used the Universal Lube to jack-off with and said it was as good as any silicone lube he has used in the past as far as slipperiness and stroke-ability. He didn’t like how the lube coated his penis however and wanted to wash it off right after masturbating. He actually called it Borg Blood, I guess because it was like machine lubricant. But, hey if you are into Borgs or other AI sexual beings, that could be sexy?
Both my S/O and I prefer water-based lubes in general, and better yet those that are organic. It is good to have the option to use a silicone-based lube with my silicone toys though, especially if you want to use it for water play, as it won’t wash off with just water. Many people like silicone lubes over water-based one and they are often promoted as being superior to that of water and oil-based lubes. This is because they are hypo-allergenic, condom and latex safe, very long-lasting, and water resistant. I would definitely recommend Universal Lube for use with silicone sex toys, but prefer water-based lubes when it comes to sex.
