Vaginas Come in All Sizes and Shapes

The truth is, there is no “normal” or average vagina. Vaginas come in all different kinds of shapes, sizes and colors, as you can see by the photos here in this labia library. So no matter how your vagina looks, it is normal for you.

Different Shapes of Vaginas

When most people refer to the vagina, they are actually talking about the outer part of the female genitalia called the vulva. The vulva includes all the lady bits on the outside of the genitals: public mound (where the hair grows), clitoral glans, urethra, vaginal opening, as well as the major and minor labia, or lips. The vagina is the muscular canal that connects the uterus to the outside world, from cervix to the vaginal opening.

The color of each individual vagina will also vary in color, based on that person’s natural skin tone from pink to wine, and red or burgundy. As the blood engorges the vulva during sexual arousal, it may flush to a purple tone, and deepen in color as well. Medical conditions such as a yeast infection can also change the color appearance of the vulva as well. But, slight variations in color during various times of the month, or due to sexual arousal shouldn’t be a concern.
